At a global level, only a small fraction of the consumed energy is converted into useful energy, while a significant amount is dissipated as waste heat, which, in most cases, is released into the environment without being utilized. The recovery of this thermal energy represents both a technological and scientific challenge in the pursuit of more efficient and sustainable energy systems. In this context, the present study focuses on the development of thermoelectric CuO and ZnO nanowires with the aim of optimizing the capture and conversion of waste heat into usable energy, thereby contributing to the reduction of energy waste and the mitigation of the associated environmental impact.
The proposed methodology includes the fabrication of Porous Anodic Alumina (PAA) templates through a two-step pulsed anodization process, followed by the controlled electrodeposition of CuO and ZnO precursors onto these templates for nanowire growth. Subsequently, the thermoelectric properties of the nanowires are characterized, along with their morphological analysis using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and structural study through X-ray Diffraction (XRD). The results obtained will allow for an evaluation of the potential of these materials in waste heat recovery applications, thus promoting the development of more efficient and sustainable energy technologies
