In today's society, the demand for engineering professionals goes beyond technical knowledge; they are also required to possess competences to address global challenges such as sustainability, ethics, equity, diversity and inclusion. These skills are essential not only in industry, but also in sectors such as healthcare, media, entertainment and sport. This work presents the results of implementing a meaningful experience of moral dilemma discussion and competitive debate adapted for engineering students to consolidate a democratic environment that fosters empathy, pro-social behaviours and political participation. Fictional narratives based on everyday situations were used to stimulate deep reflections on political attitudes, addressing it as an inherent aspect of everyday life. This initiative seeks to provide students with tools for active and responsible citizen participation, fostering a culture of peace based on solid ethical values. The didactic sequence focuses on raising awareness of equity, equal opportunities and non-discrimination in terms of sex, gender identity or sexual orientation, promoting a fair, empathetic society that respects the rights and duties of all (UIS, 2018). This paper is a first advance in the integration of citizenship competences in engineering education, showing an innovative approach that can serve as a model for other academic programmes.
