Abstract

Student dropout in Higher Education in Colombia represents a challenge for universities, due to its direct impact on institutional planning, curricular planning, and the academic development of students.

In Industrial Engineering programs, this phenomenon is influenced by multiple factors, including academic performance, socioeconomic conditions, characteristics of the university environment, and the level of institutional support. In this context, the System for the Prevention of Dropout from Higher Education (SPADIES) has established itself as a key tool to analyze the historical figures of dropout and promote strategies that strengthen student permanence.

This study aims to examine the main factors associated with permanence in Industrial Engineering programs by applying information collection instruments against SPADIES data. Through a quantitative approach, key indicators related to the socioeconomic profile of students, their academic performance, and the institutional conditions that affect their continuity in the program are analyzed.

The findings will allow for a better understanding of dropout trends and propose actions to improve retention in Industrial Engineering programs, contributing to the strengthening of university student support policies.
