The Colombian Association of Engineering Faculties (ACOFI) has been a fundamental pillar in engineering education and practice in Colombia for the past 50 years, which will be celebrated in 2025. Its work has gone beyond the classroom, connecting students, universities, foundations, and companies in an environment of innovation and development. In this context, the ACOFI Student Chapter has established itself as a space for inspiration and leadership for future generations of engineers at both national and international levels.
The ACOFI Student Chapter collaborates nationally and internationally to actively engage young engineers, encouraging their participation in meetings, training sessions, and events, as well as through online platforms and email communication. Teaching the proper use of intellectual and/or physical tools is essential to fostering the development of practical skills, teamwork in projects, and contributions to community development. In this way, an inclusive space is created for young people and children, promoting creativity, leadership, and the importance of teamwork and community well-being.
This report presents the 2024 results within the framework of ACOFI’s strategic objectives for its student network. It reaffirms our commitment as an international volunteer engineering network, with a focus on academic excellence and social innovation. Through workshops, conferences, and strategic partnerships, we have actively contributed to strengthening skills and applying engineering knowledge in practical contexts.
The impact of the ACOFI Student Chapter has been reflected in various social responsibility initiatives throughout 2024, such as the health brigade in Pijao, where medical care was provided to the community. This initiative contributed to improving, at least partially, the quality of life of the people, also helping in disease prevention and promoting collective well-being. An example of this is the "Drops of Happiness from Engineering" initiative, which demonstrated how creativity and technology can transform lives from an early age. These actions encouraged participants to make informed decisions and actively engage in solving social and economic challenges.
Additionally, the ACOFI Student Chapter has worked with other communities, foundations, and schools. For example, on Tierra Bomba Island, children actively participated and were motivated to continue their education, reinforcing their commitment to comprehensive engineering training and social responsibility. Furthermore, adequate educational spaces promote teamwork, creativity, a sense of responsibility, and belonging.
In the long term, these initiatives contribute to building a more cohesive engineering community with a greater capacity to face future challenges. Finally, those who benefited from the ACOFI Student Chapter’s efforts throughout the year now have the opportunity to be inspired to pursue careers in engineering, science, or related fields, which, in turn, will contribute to the economic and social development of their communities on a daily basis.
