Abstract

Effective risk management does not necessarily imply eliminating tasks, laying off personnel or rejecting stalled projects, and although such options may seem the safest and most economical, from a financial point of view they are not viable. What is potentially profitable, by definition, is risky, and risk-free activity is of no economic interest, since it generates no tangible benefits. Therefore, proper risk management is key to the success of projects.

Only 26% of projects succeed, while the majority fail due to mismanagement; lack of time, budget overruns, failure to meet client expectations and resources.

Within this research we will show the use of a risk matrix for the distribution of wood products in the municipality of Tepezalá, where from particular situations caused by any risk within an event presented in a logistics project, some possible guidelines are evaluated to foresee the consequences of future disasters, focusing on a tool applied to the risk management system.

Each risk specific to the project is given an exclusive identifier in the risk register, and each one is identified with the maximum detail to guarantee a clear classification.

This system can be applied in other future distributions, thus demonstrating that the wood products distribution system can improve not only the logistics sector, but also the areas of marketing, sales and even inventories. This model is accessible for introduction in other specializations, regardless of their business line, resulting in greater financial benefits. This methodology allows organizations to take actions to minimize the risk of impact on the overall results for each project.
