Abstract

Climate change and population growth are affecting water availability, requiring new management strategies that include policies, practices and technologies accepted by the community. However, there is a gap between institutional information and the real needs of citizens. User-Centered Design (UCD) seeks to create efficient and satisfactory solutions considering the context of use and human factors. Participatory modeling actively incorporates users in the design of solutions, encouraging cooperation and the use of local knowledge, which has proven to be effective in the management of environmental resources.

The project seeks to develop a working prototype to promote good practices in domestic water management, using user-centered design (UCD) and participatory modeling in the initial stages. It targets peri-urban communities without access to public water infrastructure. The Iconix methodology is used, integrating UCD stages and community participation through surveys and statistical analysis. The process includes requirements analysis, study of similar applications, design of causal diagrams together with the community and elaboration of the application architecture. In the final phase, the application is implemented, tested and fine-tuned. The article presents the initial results, including the characterization of users and related applications.
